Biography

Franco Wanyama was a Ugandan boxer who competed at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. After the Olympics he turned professional, fighting mostly in Belgium, although he had a few fights in the Netherlands, the UK, Detroit (USA), and Uganda. He fought as a pro from December 1989 to June 2000, finishing with a career record of 20 wins (7 KOs), 7 losses, and 2 draws.

Wanyama won the Commonwealth cruiserweight title on 28 January 1994 with a TKO win over Tony Booth, but lost that title by TKO to Chris Okoh on 29 September 1995. In the early 1990s he also held the BeNeLux cruiserweight and heavyweight titles. After his competitive career ended, Wanyama became a paid sparring partner and moved his family to England. However, like many former boxers, he ended up with both financial and health problems and died fairly young.
