Claus Dalpiaz was an ice hockey goalkeeper playing at the 1994 Lillehammer Winter Olympics representing Austria. The team was eliminated in the group stage and finally placed 12th and last, after losing the match for 11th place to Norway 3-1. Four years later at Nagano the team again placed last and 14th. He represented Austria 146 times internationally, a record for a goaltender.
Dalpiaz began playing hockey at the age of four, and when he was 17 was the backup to the legendary German goaltender Karl Friesen in Rosenheim. At club level, Dalpiaz played with DJK SB Rosenheim, Kassel Huskies, EC Bad Nauheim (Germany), VEU Feldkirch, HC Innsbruck, and Graz99ers (Austria).
By profession, Dalpiaz was an offset printer. He later decided to coach his home club Kufstein after ending his playing career in November 2010. He also worked as a hockey expert commentator on Austrian TV channel ORF. Dalpiaz held dual Germany and Austria citizenship.
