Biography

West German Alpine skier Klaus Gattermann, brother of Reiner Gattermann, finished 12th in the downhill event as the best West German skier at the 1984 Sarajevo Winter Olympics. The same year he won the West German Championships in this event. He never made a podium in a World Cup race and retired in 1989 after coming back from a severe fall at the Streif in Kitzbühel in 1985. Gattermann trained as a tool maker but later became racing director at the ski manufacturer Völkl.
