Günther Lanzinger played ice hockey as a right wing with the Austrian team at the 1994 Lillehammer and 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. The team was eliminated in the group stage and finally placed 12th and last, after losing the match for 11th place to Norway 3-1 in 1994. Eight years later the team came 12th out of 14. Lanzinger won 63 international caps and scored seven points (4+3).
Lanzinger had a long-playing career at Villacher SV where he spent 22 seasons and became a five-time Austrian champion (1992-93, 1999, 2002, 2006). He finished his career in the Austrian fourth division 2010/11 and the turned to coaching, starting as an assistant coach for Villacher SV. His son Benjamin also became a professional with Villacher SV.
