Tauno Honkanen was a member of the Finnish team, with Mikko Meriläinen, Vilho Ylönen, and Eero Naapuri, that placed second in the military ski patrol demonstration event at the 1948 St. Moritz Olympics. The following year, he was a member of the Finnish 3x10 kilometer cross-country relay that won silver at the 1949 World Cup, alongside Naapuri and Tauno’s brother Pauli. He was then selected to represent Finland in cross-country skiing at the 1950 World Championship, but had to withdraw due to a knee injury.
