In the late 1950s Vic Naismith played Australian rules football for Richmond in the Victorian Football League. His brief career spanned two seasons with Naismith, playing in 31 matches and scoring seven goals. He was a talented all-round sportsman who also played tennis, squash, and golf. In 1956 he was almost selected to compete in the javelin throw at the Melbourne Olympics but hurt his shoulder in an accident at work. Despite this, Naismith featured in a one-off Aussie rules match that was a demonstration sport at the Games, representing the Victorian Football League/Victorian Football Association. His football career ended after the 1958 season after getting into a fight with the club’s selector.
