Biography

Wolfgang Bochow played badminton singles and doubles at the 1972 Olympics when the sport was a demonstration only. Bochow was a legendary player in Germany, winning 15 national titles between 1963-76, including eight singles titles. At the European Championships, Bochow won two silver medals and seven bronze medals between 1968-76. He competed at the All-England Championships from 1966-72, reaching the semi-finals six times.

Bochow worked for Badmintonsport in Germany, as an assessor in the committee of the DBV in 1970-71, as chairman of the Lehrausschuss in 1977, and as an assessor on the service committee in 1990. He served the Badminton-Landesverband Nordrhein-Westfalen as Vice-President from 1987-90, and was chairman of the service committee. In 1972 Bochow received the Silver Bay Leaf, the highest sporting award in Germany, while in 1989 he was given a Meritorious Service Award by the International Badminton Federation.
