Biography

Tom Goodwin was a center fielder who played for the USA at the 1988 Olympic demonstration baseball. He played in college at Fresno State University, where he was a two-time All-American, after which he was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the first round (22nd pick) of the 1989 Major League Baseball Draft.

Goodwin made it up to the majors in 1991 with the Dodgers and played with them through 1993. He played in the majors through 2004, successively with the Kansas City Royals (1994-97). Texas Rangers (1997-99), Colorado Rockies (2000), back with the Dodgers (2000-01), San Francisco Giants (2002), and the Chicago Cubs (2003-04). Goodwin was known for his speed and his base stealing prowess.

After retiring as a player Goodwin became a minor league manager in the Boston Red Sox organization. In 2011 he was named the first base coach for the New York Mets and in 2017 he returned to the Red Sox as their first base coach and was with the team when they won the 2018 World Series.
