Biography

Texas-born Lorne Guild lived in Panama and New Mexico as a child before he came to Baltimore. After graduating from Baltimore City College, he went to Johns Hopkins. Guild received his B.A. in engineering in 1932, the year of the Los Angeles Olympics. He later worked as an engineer for various power companies and served as president of the Johns Hopkins Engineers Club.

Starting at Baltimore City College and later at Hopkins Guild excelled as a lacrosse player and was selected for the 1931 and 1932 All-American lacrosse teams. His Hopkins’ team won the 1932 national title and, therefore, represented the United States in the lacrosse demonstration at Los Angeles. He later played several years for Mt. Washington and toured England in 1937 with an All-Star team. In 1967 Guild was inducted into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame.
