In 1935, William Weitzel did his master’s degree at Johns Hopkins University, where he was a member of their successful lacrosse team, representing the United States in the 1932 demonstration event. During World War II he headed a mechanical engineering unit, building a chemical weapons manufacturing center near Denver. In 1941 Weitzel joined Western Electric in New York, where he worked until his death of a heart attack at age 55.
