Biography
German road cyclist Andreas Klöden won the bronze medal in the individual road race at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. He also finished 12th in the individual time trial. Four years later at Athens, he failed to finish the road race. In 2004 and 2006, he placed second in the Tour de France.
Klöden won several road races during his career. In 1996, he won the road time trial at the U23 World Championships, and in 1998 the Lower Saxony Tour. In 2000, Klöden won the Paris-Nice stage race and the Tour of the Basque Country, repeating the latter success in 2011. In 2008, he also won the Tour de Romandie.
Nationally, Klöden was road race champion in 2004. He also participated in ten Tour de France and six Vuelta a España. He was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award. Upcoming doping rumours in 2008 were never proven.
