Biography

Ruthie Matthes was a mountain biker who competed at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. She started as a road racer and finished second at the 1990 World Cycling Championships in the road race. The next year she won gold at the mountain bike World Championships in the cross-country event. She also won three bronze medals at the mountain bike Worlds, in 1990, 1992, and 1993. Her other major road race accomplishments were two second place finishes at the Women’s Challenge Stage Race.
