Biography

Marcus Ehning was a German show jumper who won the team gold medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics when, individually, he finished in tied fourth place. Twelve years later he came back to the Olympic stage but disappointingly the team placed only tenth, and individually he finished 12th. At the 2010 World Championships, Ehning also won a team gold and in 2006 a team bronze medal.

At the Europeans, Ehning won team gold in 1999, 2003, and 2005, team silver in 2007, 2019 and 2021, and individual bronze in 2003. Nationally, he won the title in 2002 and again in 2023. Ehning was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award. He became a trained wholesale and foreign trade merchant by profession and worked with his horses at the family’s riding facility. His brother Johannes was also a show jumper.
