Biography

Defender and midfielder Ariane Hingst was a member of the German women’s football squads that won the bronze medal at the 2000 Sydney, 2004 Athens, and 2008 Beijing Olympics. Therefore, she was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award. She won 174 international caps and scored ten goals. In 2003 and 2007 Hingst was a member of the winning FIFA Women’s World Cup squads, and in 1997, 2001, 2005, and 2009 she won the UEFA European Women’s Championship. In 2022, she was inducted into the German Football Hall of Fame.

At club level, Hingst played with Hertha Zehlendorf Berlin (1994-97), 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam (1997-2007), Djurgårdens IF Stockholm in Sweden (2007-08), 1. FFC Frankfurt (2009-11), Newcastle United Jets in Australia (2011-12), and Canberra United in Australia (2012-13). With Potsdam, Hingst won the national championship in 2004 and 2006, and the German Cup three times 2004-06. She won it again with Frankfurt in 2011. In 2005, she won the UEFA Women’s Cup with Potsdam.

Hingst turned to coaching after her active career and worked with VfL Wolfsburg as an assistant coach and from 2021 with the German U19 and U20 women’s national teams. Hingst trained as a bank clerk but later turned to physiotherapy. She worked in Sweden part-time with the ice hockey team of Djurgårdens IF.
