Biography

German field hockey player Franziska Gude competed at the 2000 Sydney Olympics when the team finished seventh. Four years later at Athens the team won the gold medal and was named Team of The Year in Germany. Also, all team members were awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award.

Internationally, Gude won a silver medal at the 1999 European Championship, and a bronze medal in 2003, when she also added the Champions Trophy. She won the gold medal at the 2002 and 2008 European Indoor Championships. Gude played 168 international matches (including 21 indoor), scoring 35 goals (28 indoor) from 1998-2008.

Domestically, Gude played with HC Göttingen (until 1995), DHC Hannover (1995-96), and Rot-Weiß Köln (1996-2007). With Köln she won the German championship in 1998, 2003, and 2007. She also helped them win the European Champions Cup in 1999 and the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 2000. By profession, she became a graduated primary schoolteacher.
