Biography

Jean Verschneider was a versatile French bronze sculptor who also worked as a metal artist creating a collection of decorative lacquered metal vases. He mainly worked in Art Déco and also created statues for Goldscheider and car mascots. This included a famous car mascot called The Kid which depicted Jackie Coogan from the movie of the same name. Verschneider was a member of the Société des Artistes Français in Paris and exhibited at their salons. The submitted work could be Saut de haie féminin (Female jumping a hurdle). The 42 cm high bronze figure dates from around 1920. A figure entitled Le Saut was also shown at the Salon of 1923.
