Biography

German sculptor Richard Langer studied with Louis Tuaillon at the Art Academy in Berlin. In 1912 he was able to go to Roma on a scholarship and also worked in Ancona and Berlin. In 1919 he became professor at the Düsseldorf Academy of Fine Arts for building and decorative sculpture. Langer produced sculptures in stone, bronze, wood, iron, stucco, terracotta and porcelain, and worked frequently for the well-known porcelain manufacturer Meißen. The medal design, which was submitted in 1928, was one of several proposals for the permanent victory medal of the Olympic Games.
