Biography

Italian sculptor Roberto Terracini received an Honorable Mention for his work Targa del CONI at the 1936 Berlin Olympics within the Art Competitions in the category Sculpturing, Reliefs. Terracini grew up in Asti with his grandfather, a jeweler and Rabbi. He studied in Torino at the Accademia Albertina, where he later also held a professorship until 1973 – except for the years of persecution of the Jews in Italy. At times he worked as an artist in Roma at the Accademia Inglese in his youth. Terracini’s sculptures, often memorials and tombs, were Renaissance-oriented.

During Mussolini’s Fascist dictatorship Terracini was no longer permitted to work, because he was Jewish. His studio in Torino was nearly completely destroyed by bombing raids and he and his family had to hide from 1943 to the end of World War II. He died in a car accident.
