Biography

Constant Vez was a Swiss sculptor and cabinet maker of Art Nouveau and Art Deco. He gave up his technical studies early to become a woodcarver. He completed practical training in Paris and founded the art store Vez-Odot in Lausanne in 1900. He probably lived there until the end of his life. In 1901 he was awarded a gold medal in a competition in Vevey, exhibited in 1906 at the World’s Fair in Milano and at the Exposition des Arts décoratifs 1925 in Paris. He created and restored wooden interiors for ships, churches and private salons. The Runner at the Finish is today probably listed as a Male Dancer in the art trade. The dimensions of this bronze figure are 41 x 32 cm.
