Biography

Churchill Ettinger was an accomplished athlete who became an exceptional painter, graphic artist and illustrator. He studied at Columbia and New York and mainly worked in oil and etching. Ettinger painted sports scenes, mainly fishing and hunting, but also dogs and birds and landscapes. In particular, he worked as an illustrator for the covers of many sports magazines. Since he was a successful outdoor athlete, it increased its visibility. Ettinger moved to Weston, Vermont in the early 1950s.

The title of his entry The Right Fly is erroneously translated Der echte Flug (The real flight) in the German catalog of the art exhibition. The original title appears several times in Ettinger’s oeuvre, for etchings also supplemented by subtitles. However, there is also an oil painting of the same title. However, any dating informations are missing.
