Biography

Mabel Fossler was a pianist who earn a bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska in 1907. From 1908-09 she studied at the Nebraska Wesleyan Conservatory of Music and gave various piano solo concerts while there. She later studied at Johns Hopkins Medical School, graduating as a nurse in 1912. For a time Fossler lived in Pasadena, California, where it is noted that she took graduate courses in education and psychological testing at UCLA and a medical course at Southern Cal. Later, she worked at the Occidental Art College in Los Angeles as a physiology teacher as well as for Los Angeles and Pasadena city health departments, mainly with children. In the 1932 copyright catalogue, she is listed with a song called “Our winning team”, which may well be also her Olympic entry.
