Swiss Benoît Bickel wrote philosophical and scientific works as well as a collection of short stories. He began classical studies at St. Maurice and entered the novitiate of the Capuchin in Lucerne. Bickel was ordained as a priest in 1928. First professor of religion in Bulle, then assistant director of the Scholasticate of Saint-Maurice, he eventually became a parish missionary and preacher. He was also a scientist and researcher, a mineral collector, a botanist and a writer.
