Péter Paxián began his career as a race walker in 1908 representing Typographia SC and achieved his first victory the following year. He then transferred to BAK and dominated the Hungarian championships in 1910 and 1911 winning the only race walking event, the 10 km, in both years, in 1911 with a national record. In 1912, he was entered for this event at the Stockholm Olympics but did not start. Paxián subsequently retired from active competition but tried a comeback in 1913 with little success.
During World War I, Paxián served as a lance-corporal in the 1st Honvéd Infantry Regiment in Galicia. After contracting dysentery, he was hospitalised and returned to the front, where he was taken POW by the Russians in December 1915. He was interned at Tomsk.
After the war, he became an official of Rákosszentmihály Sports Club from the town of the same name, later a district of Budapest. In 1920, RSC merged with the Rákosszentmihály Athletics and Football Club (RAFC) under the name of Rákosszentmihályi Physical Training Club (RTK).
Paxián worked as a typesetter. In 1919, he was involved in the short-lived Hungarian Soviet Republic. In the successor state under Miklós Horthy he was put to trial and found guilty of trespassing and extortion. He was sentenced to one year in prison, of which he served two months. Later, he continued to work in his profession.
