Juan K. Taduran, from the south-eastern part of the main island Luzon, not only excelled as a decathlete but was also an accomplished middle-distance runner. He attracted attention in 1919, when he was runner-up in the decathlon of the Far Eastern Games and placed third in the 880 y. For the next three events in 1921-25, Taduran dominated the decathlon in the Far Eastern Games winning three consecutive gold medals, making him only the second athlete to win three consecutive titles in the same event (after Filipino sprinter Fortunato Catalon). In 1925 Taduran also took bronze again in the 800 m run. Later, he became head coach of the unsuccessful baseball team from the Philippines at the 1930 Far Eastern Games. In his later years, Taduran lived in the US state of Kansas.
