Biography

A top Spanish middle-distance runner in the 1930s and early 1940s, Enrique Piferrer was entered in the 800 and 1,500 metres at the 1936 Olympics, but did not compete in either event as Spain withdrew from Berlin due to the ongoing Spanish Civil War. Piferrer won 19 Catalonian titles – 5 in the 1,500 (1932, 1934-36, 1940), 9 in the 800 (1933-34, 1936, 1940-45), and 5 in the 400 (1941-45); and 11 state titles – 7 in the 800 (1933-34, 1936,1940-43), 3 in the 1,500 (1934, 1936, 1940), and 1 in the 400 metres in 1941. He set Catalan and state records at all three distances and in the mile, 2,000 metres, and 4x800 relay. Piferrer ran for Futbol Club Barcelona from 1932-36 and in 1941, for SEU in 1940, with CE Montnegre in 1943-44, and finally for Hispano-French in 1945.
