Biography

Páll Halldórsson was entered in the 4x100 relay at the 1948 London Olympics but did not compete. Halldórsson earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and business history from the University of Toronto in Canada in 1957. He was the director of the Independence Party in East Iceland from 1957-60, worked for Katla hf. in Reykjavík, and was a representative of Statistics Iceland in 1962. Halldórsson was the director of taxation in the East Region from 1962-79 and was head of department at the Ministry of Finance in 1980-95.

Halldórsson was a member of the board of the KR athletics department from 1944-48, serving as chair in 1947, and was also chairman of the Student Sports Association that year. In 1946, 1956, and 1962 he was a member of the board of the Reykjavík Athletics Council.

Halldórsson was the editor of Þór, the newspaper of the independence movement in East Iceland, from 1958-60. In 1967-74 he was chairman of the Egilsstaðaskóli school committee and from 1970-71 was chairman of the constituency council of the independent associations in East Iceland.
