Finnish track and field athlete Kari Töyrylä was active in the mid-1980s, specialising in the shot put. In 1983 Töyrylä won silver in the event at the Finnish championships before repeating the feat the following year. These performances earned him a place on the Olympic team but he did not start the event at the Los Angeles Games. In 1985 he won the Finnish Indoor Championship and placed 10th at the World Indoor Championships in Paris. One year later Töyrylä became the ninth member of Finland’s 20 metre club when he threw 20.05 metres.
