Biography

Fadime Helvacioglu was a German taekwondoka of Turkish origin, who lost her first-round bout in the flyweight class to upcoming bronze medallist Chi Shu-Ju from Taiwan. From 1998-2000 Helvacioglu won three consecutive German national titles. In 1996, she was European Champion and added a silver medal in 2000. In 1997, she won the Austrian and the German Opens, repeating in 1998 at the German Open, and later winning the 1999 Dutch Open, and in 2000 the US Open. She married her coach Yilmaz Karatas.
