Carlo Montemurro was born in Rouyn-Noranda, Québec in 1934 to Italian parents who had emigrated to North America in the early 1910s. Montemurro began playing ice hockey whilst at high school in Canada, briefly playing for the Oshawa Generals as a junior. When he was 20-years-old he moved to Italy where he continued to play ice hockey for SG Cortina. In 1956 he was selected to represent Italy at the Cortina d’Ampezzo Olympics where he played in six matches and scored two goals. After initially retiring in the 1950s Montemurro made a brief comeback to the ice before retiring for good in 1961.
One year later Montemurro opened a discount store in Val-d’Isère in the French Alps but was fined after ignoring the local closing hours. He then opened a bakery, also in Val-d’Isère, which was later destroyed in a fire in 1964. He tried to sue the police and fire service for unjust treatment surrounding the circumstances of the fire but the police then arrested him believing that he had started the fire himself. Montemurro later moved into the finance sector, opening several investment firms in Ontario. By 1980, however, two of them had collapsed and in 1984 Montemurro was sentenced to six years in jail for fraud. Following his release from prison he moved to Orlando, Florida.
