Biography

John Nightingale competed in pairs with Janet Gerhauser. After winning the 1950 US Junior Nationals, they placed second at the US Nationals in 1951 and 1952, and at the Worlds, were eighth in 1951 and fifth in 1952. They also won US titles in 1947-48, and 1950 in the now-discontinued Fours event, also winning the 1949 North American Fours. Nightingale was a Lieutenant in the Army, retiring in 1974, and he then returned to St. Louis where he began coaching figure skating, which he did for over 35 years.
