Biography

Barry Richter played in college at the University of Wisconsin. He was drafted by the Hartford Whalers in the second round of the 1988 NHL Draft, and ended up playing parts of five seasons in the NHL between 1995-2001, appearing with the New York Rangers, Boston Bruins, New York Islanders, and Montreal Canadiens. His only full season was 1998/99 with the Islanders. He also played parts of eight American Hockey League seasons with the Binghamton Rangers, Providence Bruins, Manitoba Moose, and Québec Citadelles.

Internationally Richter first competed for the United States in 1989 at the World Junior Championships and played in that tournament again in 1990. In addition to his 1994 Winter Olympic appearance, he competed at the World Championships in 1992, 1993, 1994, and 1999. In 2001 Richter moved to Sweden where he played two seasons with Linköping HC and then five seasons with EV Zug, retiring after the 2007/08 season.
