Biography

László Rona was a real globetrotter who began his sports career in the colors of SC Hakoah Wien in the 1929-30 season. Until 1933, he was a member of the Wiener AC and even played on the Austrian national team for a few matches. He then moved to Switzerland where he played with EHC Arosa for two years. His only team in Hungary was BKE, with whom he played between 1935 and 1939, winning three championship titles and in the last two seasons he also coached the team.

During his stay in Hungary, Róna earned 28 caps. He competed at the 1936 Garmisch Winter Olympics and three World Championships (1937-39). In 1939, due to growing anti-Semitism, he left the country and emigrated to Switzerland, where he played with EHC Arosa for a season. In the 1940-41 season, he was with Finnish Kronohagens IF, where he also won the national championship title. Róna then moved to Sweden and joined Karlbergs BK. He also competed in the Swedish tennis championships and won it in 1942. After World War II, in 1949-50, he played ice hockey for the Paris Lions. He then retired from active sports and settled in Spain.
