Biography

Walter Salzmann played his entire career for his hometown team of EHC Visp, except for two seasons during which he was player-coach at HC Sion. He led EHC Visp to its only national title in 1962, coached by Swiss hockey legend Bibi Torriani. Salzmann was part of a renowned line with Herold Truffer and Kurt Pfammatter. In addition to his Olympic appearance, he earned 30 caps for Switzerland, including the 1963 World Championship B-Pool. After his playing career Salzmann became a coach and president of EHC Visp, later named their honorary president. He was a businessman and a politician in Visp and the regional government.
