Biography

Franz Thannheimer was a cook and was made responsible to bring on and cook the food for the 1928 Winter Olympic team in their preparations for the Olympic qualifying races. At the 1928 St. Moritz Winter Olympics he came in 17th in the normal hill event. In 1927 he won the New Year Jump at Oberstdorf with the new hill record of 46 m. In 1928 he set a new unofficial world jumping record of 75 m. At the 1929 World Championships, he placed 20th. He ran a carpenter’s shop in his hometown of Oberstdorf, and on his death, the business was taken over by his son.
