Biography

Edgar Hartung was a member of the West German K-4 flatwater canoe squad that finished ninth at the 1976 Montréal Summer Games. Chris van Eeden’s foot spar broke during the final, and therefore they finished in last place. Domestically, Hartburg enjoyed six podium finishes at the West German nationals, two of them in 1977, as national champion in the K-2 500 and K-4 500.

By profession, Hartung graduated as an engineer in the construction industry. He also became president of his home club, Wassersportverein Schierstein. His father, Ferdinand, was also a successful sprint canoeist, and was a substitute at the 1936 Berlin Summer Games.
