Lino Zecchini was an Alpine skier who started skiing at a young age and had already competed in youth competitions by the time he was 6-years-old. He continued to succeed as a junior and then made the Italian national team. His best years were 1953-56, with two second places at the 1953 Italian Championships, a second and a third in 1953, and two more runners-up in 1955, and a bronze medal in 1956. He also competed at the 1954 World Championships, placing 40th in the slalom. At the 1956 Cortina Winter Olympics, Zecchini was considered a medal contender in the downhill but crashed during a training run when he hit a Russian skier who had fallen in front of him. Although he was able to race at Cortina d’Ampezzo he did not finish the Olympic downhill. Zecchini became a ski coach and ran a very successful ski school.
