Biography

Michele Taggart was unusual in that she competed on the World Cup circuits in both Alpine skiing and snowboarding, although she competed at the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics as a halfpipe snowboarder. She started out as an Alpine skier, but found more success in snowboarding. She was 1996 ISF combined champion for the season, and won the 1995 ISF World Championships in giant slalom. Taggart won a World Cup halfpipe in 1998 and was the 1999 Winter X Games in the event.

Taggart attended Oregon State University, where she played volleyball and studied ballet. She played basketball, softball, and volleyball in high school. Taggart was the partner of prominent freestyler Shannon Melhuse, and they married in mid-1994.
