Biography

Betsy Shaw was a snowboarder who competed in giant slalom at the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics. She only started snowboarding when she was 20-years-old, having been on the ski team at the University of New Hampshire and then the University of Vermont. Shaw won the US Open slalom snowboarding title in 1991 and won the giant slalom at the 1995 World Championships. She grew up in Manchester, Vermont, where she attended Burr & Burton Academy. She and her British husband initially lived in Burgundy, France, but finally settled in Vermont, where she raised her children and taught skiing and snowboarding to children at Pico Mountain Ski Resort. In 2014 Shaw was inducted into the Vermont Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame.
