South Yemen, officially the People’s Democratic Republic (PDR) of Yemen, only competed at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, with three track & field athletes and two boxers. On 22 May 1990 the PDR Yemen merged with the Yemen Arab Republic (North Yemen) to form Yemen. After 1988, South Yemen athletes competed for unified Yemen.
South Yemen’s best result in their unique Olympic appearance was a 17th place, by boxer Mohamed Mahfood Sayed in the flyweight class.
