Universiade

Since 1924, “Student Olympic Games” have been held under a variety of names, including the World University Games. Since 1959, they have taken the name Universiade (from “University Olympiad”), and have been organized by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The Fédération Internationale du Sport Universitaire, as its original French name is, was founded in 1949, and organizes the biannual Universiades and Winter Universiades, as well as World University Championships in various sports. The FISU is an International Olympic Committee (IOC) recognized organization.
