Unlike in 1928 there was only one event in literature at the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics although in the brochure three groups were mentioned – dramatic, epic, and lyric works. The event had only 18 entrants from eight nations. Gold was given to German adventurer and author Paul Bauer for “The Struggle with the Himalaya” based on his expedition to Kangchenjunga in 1929.
