Firefighting at the 1900 Summer Olympics

Dates 13 – 19 August 1900
Non-medal Events 4

Four demonstration events of firefighting were given at the 1900 Paris Exposition. The US report on the sporting events at the Exposition mentions that “England, Germany, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Bohemia, Hungary, Canada, Algeria, France, Russia, Luxemburg, Holland, Romania, and the United States were represented in this contest. A report from the head of the Kansas City delegation also mentions crews from Norway, Belgium, New Zealand, Denmark, Turkey, Mexico, Switzerland, Hungary, Peru and the Isle of Man,

However, the Official Report only lists firefighting crews from France, Great Britain, Hungary, Italy, Portugal, and the United States. These were not national crews, but local crews representing various cities or towns, such as Kansas City in the United States and Milano in Italy. The demonstrations were held at the Bois de Vincennes. This is the only time firefighting has been exhibited, or demonstrated, at the Olympics, and there is no chance it will be on the Olympic Program in the future.
