Tug-Of-War at the 1900 Summer Olympics

Tug-of-war was contested at the 1900 Olympics, and it would be on the Olympic Programme in 1904, 1906, 1908, 1912, and 1920. It has not been an Olympic event since 1920. In this era, tug-of-war was usually contested as part of the athletics (track & field), and one can make a case for it being listed as an event within that sport, rather than a separate sport or discipline. In fact, tug-of-war was held as part of the US National Championships in track & field athletics in the 19th century. It was on the programme as a team event in 1877-82 and 1890, and an individual tug-of-war was contested in 1879-83 and 1890.
