Overview

The 288th Olympiad should have taken place in 65 CE. However, Nero, Emperor of Roma wished to compete in several events and, further, he wanted to win titles at Olympia, Isthmia, Nemea, and Pythia to become periodonikes all in the same year, which had never been done. So the ruling council at Olympia acceded to his wishes by pushing the Games back to 67 CE.
