Biography

The Rock was a grey gelding who was ridden by Piero d’Inzeo at the 1960 Roma Olympics, winning a silver individually and a team bronze. Foaled in Ireland in 1948 by Water Serpent out of Sandyman, he was initially sent to Italy as a hunting horse. The Rock and Piero d’Inzeo won a silver medal at the 1958 European Championship, won the 1961 and 1962 King George V Gold Cup in London, and won Grand Prix titles at Aachen, Barcelona, Dublin, Genève, London, Lucerne, Nice, Paris, and Roma. In his 13 years as a show jumper, The Rock had more international and national palmarès than any other horse, winning 172 times, with 95 second places, 44 thirds, and 156 other placements, winning 44 classes in 1958.
