Biography

Marc Gilbertson was a cross-country skier who competed in the 50 km at the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics. Gilbertson made the Olympic team by winning the 30 km freestyle event at the US Olympic Trials. He continued to ski race, winning a bronze medal in 50 km at the 2004 US Championships.

Gilbertson came late to international skiing, as he had been a teacher for six years when he decided to pursue a dream to make the Olympic team. He only made the US national team at the end of 1997. He often gave talks to local students entitled “The Dark Horse to Nagano.” Gilbertson taught seventh- and eighth-grade history and geography at Lamoille Union High School in Morrisville, Vermont.
