Michele Bonaglia

Michele Bonaglia was an Italian boxer who competed throughout his career as a light-heavyweight. His professional record was 42 wins (9 by KO), 14 defeats, and 6 draws and he was the first Italian boxer to win the European title in his division. After some bouts as amateur, he débuted as a pro in 1925 and on 26 June 1926 at Roma he earned the Italian title beating Rinaldo Palmucci. He abandoned the title for a year but regained it in Torino on 2 July 1927, again defeating Palmucci.

On 6 January 1928 Bonaglia fought for the European crown against Max Schmeling, but was defeated. He finally won the European title on 10 February 1929 in Milano, beating the Belgian Jack Étienne and he later won two title defenses. Bonaglia fought until 1934, losing three bouts and winning one for the Italian title, on 21 July 1932 in Torino against Primo Ubaldo. Enlisted in the Fascist Army, Bonaglia joined the Italian Social Republic (Salò Republic) and was later killed by a group of partisans.
