Biography

Known as “Shon Ma”, Francisco Gómez played for Curaçao’s leading team in the 1950s, SUBT, Willemstad. A non-playing reserve at the 1952 Olympics, he went on to win the first of his 16 caps in the 1953 CCCF (Confederación Centroamericana y del Caribe de Fútbol) Championship, and was in the squad that won the bronze medal at the 1955 Pan American Games. He played in a FIFA World Cup qualifier against Costa Rica in 1957, and also played in that year’s CCCF Championship. He was in the Netherlands Antilles squad that won the silver medal at the 1959 Central American and Caribbean Games, and the following year he won his last cap, in a World Cup qualifier against Suriname.
