John Healy was one of the five non-travelling Irish Free State (now the Republic of Ireland) reserves for the 1924 Paris Olympics. Some pundits felt he should have been selected for the starting XI after his performances in the trial games.
Healy played for Bray Unknowns since before World War I and was a free-scoring centre-forward. He helped Bray win the Leinster Senior League in 1922/23 before being admitted into the League of Ireland (the Irish Free State League at the time) in 1924/25. Unfortunately, Healy’s goalscoring touch deserted him, and he scored just one goal as Bray finished next to bottom in their début season. They did, however, reach the semi-final of the that season’s Cup.
