Biography

Jake Fiala was primarily a speed skier who skied downhill and combined at the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. He also competed at the 1999 World Alpine Championships in Vail, Colorado, and the 2001 and 2003 Worlds. He was the top American finisher in downhill at the 2003 Worlds, placing 12th. Fiala won the 1999 Super-G National Championship and was the overall winner of the North American Cup in 2000.

Fiala was on the US National Alpine Team from 1997-2005, skiing his last Alpine World Cup season in 2005. He then turned to freestyle, competing in ski-cross events in the next few years. He won a silver medal in ski-cross at the 2007 X Games and had one top 10 finish in freestyle World Cup. He retired in 2009, having finished 25th in the ski-cross World Cup in 2008.
